Digital Organizer Role
We’re looking for a talented organizer to join our team and help us build a new volunteer powered digital organizing program. The ideal candidate will be ready to hit the ground running in partnership with our national organization, ProgressNow, and a cohort of state affiliates. This is a part-time cycle position through the end of 2025. You will be expected to work 20-25 hours per week with some travel across Virginia, depending on your location.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain relationships with volunteers and activists to move them into a ladder of engagement with Progress Virginia
- Cultivate networks of activists and micro-influencers to create and share compelling online content
- Along with Progress Virginia’s organizing director, own the implementation of the organic content distribution program at Progress Virginia and partner with staff to ensure the program is incorporated into strategic plans and goals
- Ensure Progress Virginia’s message and strategic priorities are reflected in the content shared through the program
- Utilize data and metrics to analyze what organizing approaches and creative content are working and learn from failures to continually improve the program’s performance
- Build a volunteer base structured by week-by-week plans that identify the tactics needed for identification, recruitment and engagement of volunteers.
- Work directly with the Megaphone Director to brainstorm and create weekly relevant and rapid response content to disseminate to our volunteers as well as our own social media accounts.
- Conduct weekly digital seminars to train volunteers on the Megaphone program/app as well as facilitate a variety of topical and relational digital events (storytelling, open discussion, feedback, etc) using field and relational organizing tactics to compel volunteers to share content and their own stories across social media platforms, creating a clear ladder of engagement.
- Attend at least 2 in-person events each month to inform and recruit people for our program.
- Collaborate with other partner organizations to expand the reach of our progressive messages.
- Assist in managing our various social media accounts and email lists.
- Attend multiple weekly team calls with the Megaphone Director, other organizers, the ProgressVA staff, and partner organizations.
- Hit specified organizing metrics established by Megaphone Director and national ProgressNow reports.
Requirements:
- At least two years experience in organizing, campaigns, and/or advocacy roles
- A demonstrated commitment to racial, economic, and social justice values
- Ability to manage up and out to move project objectives forward
- Creativity and flexibility to problem solve and engage in finding solutions around obstacles
- A passion for experimentation and building new things
- A valid driver’s license, access to a vehicle, and the ability to travel when needed

Because negotiating is inherently inequitable, we want to be transparent about what benefits
we can offer up front and avoid negotiation. The salary for this position is $3,000 per month. People in this position must provide their own computers and additional work equipment, but may submit reimbursement requests of up to $100 per month to cover costs for phone access and $75 for internet access. This is an election cycle position that ends December 31, 2025. It does not provide health care or other benefits.
