I hope y’all are hungry because Virginia’s GOP is serving up a buffet of ridiculousness. We knew this session would be different – and difficult – without a trusted Democratic trifecta to lead the Commonwealth. So when it comes to the nonsense some GOP legislators are trying to push through the General Assembly, you can color us shocked, but NOT surprised.

ICYMI: New Lawsuit Affirms Virginians Cannot Trust Youngkin

On Wednesday, multiple media outlets, including The Washington Post, filed a lawsuit against Glenn Youngkin for violating the Freedom of Information Act by refusing to release records related to the tip line he established. The wildly unpopular tip line, which has set parents and teachers against each other and left educators feeling intimidated and unsupported, was created for parents to use as a tool for reporting Virginia educators who are teaching “divisive” concepts in their classrooms.

On Monday, Virginia legislators gathered for a Special Session ordered by Governor Glenn Youngkin. Lawmakers were tasked with passing a state budget that would invest into our communities and expand work geared towards creating a Commonwealth where everyone can thrive, regardless of their race, gender identity, immigration status, zip code, or income level. However, after less than 2 hours, meetings in the House of Delegates and the Senate of Virginia were adjourned without the House and Senate budget conferees even meeting.

The Marcus Alert passed the Virginia General Assembly in 2020 and was created to ensure that behavioral health experts are involved in responding to people who are experiencing a mental health crisis.
