Hide or Lie: Glenn Youngkin Is Too Scared to Debate

Did you know that just a few weeks ago, Glenn Youngkin was caught on camera saying that he can’t tell voters how he really feels about abortion because then he might lose the election?

Yup. He said that he would do everything in his power to limit abortion access in Virginia but if he admitted it on camera, it wouldn’t be good for his chances to win the governorship of Virginia. Yeah, that’s because voters don’t want a governor who would decimate access to abortion in the Commonwealth, because abortion is a vital health care service and nothing to be ashamed of. Also, most Virginians support abortion access. Glenn apparently thinks it is fine to lie to voters about his real position so he can win.

You would think that after getting caught like this, Glenn might do the right thing, fess up, and want to set the record straight with voters. But you’d be wrong. Instead of owning up to his actual positions, he announced that he won’t debate Democrat Terry McAuliffe in the Virginia Bar Association Debate, a debate that has been a Virginia tradition for the last 36 years.

It’s clear that Youngkin’s winning strategy is to lie when possible and hide when he gets caught. I don’t know about you, but I’m not down with a governor who won’t tell me what he actually wants to do while in office.

That’s why I’m voting for Terry McAuliffe on November 2. On his website, Terry has a whopping 13 policy papers covering everything from his plan for the economy, how to recover from the pandemic, and education, and how to support working families. He makes it clear what he stands for and what he’ll do if elected.

How many policy papers do you think Glenn Youngkin has? If you guessed a grand total of zero, you’d be correct.

Glenn Youngkin thinks he can win this election by avoiding voters and lying about his positions. But people in our community won’t let him get away with that kind of malarkey. This election season, we’ll be voting for Terry McAuliffe, Hala Ayala, and Mark Herring for the statewide offices of governor, lieutenant governor, and attorney general––people who share our values and we know we can trust to stand up for us and our communities.

That’s why we need you to vote this November 2! It seems like a long way away, but we need to start mobilizing now!  It’s never too early to register to vote or update your registration status if you’ve moved, turned 18, or changed your name recently!
