Progress Virginia Condemns Trump Move To Roll Back Birth Control Insurance Coverage
Washington, DC—Today, the Trump Administration announced a roll back of the birth control insurance coverage mandate that is a signature part of the Affordable Care Act. The new policy takes effect immediately and allows all employers, not just those that are explicitly religious, to opt out of providing insurance coverage for contraceptives.
“Women deserve the right to decide how and when to start a family. Now Donald Trump wants to put bosses in charge of women’s birth control and family planning decisions,” said Anna Scholl, Executive Director of Progress Virginia. “Women should be in charge of making their own medical decisions, in consultation with their physician, not their boss and certainly not Donald Trump. Virginia’s leaders must take immediate action to protect access to birth control for Virginia women and families. Virginians should ask every candidate on the ballot this November who they think should be in charge of women’s health care decisions: women or Donald Trump and their bosses?.”
