Heather Cordasco is running for the House of Delegates in the 93rd district. She’s one of the many Republican candidates in Virginia this year who has been endorsed by the NRA. They’ve given her an AQ rating, the highest rating allowed for a candidate without an actual voting record.

While the NRA thinks Heather is a good fit for the seat, she has shown time and time again that she is uninformed about gun violence and Virginia’s gun laws. Heather has shown that she would rather follow blindly on this issue than learn the truth.

Here are Heather Cordasco’s 3 worst moments on guns:

1. Heather Cordasco thinks dangerous assault weapons are just “cosmetic” changes to a gun.

After the recent mass shooting in Las Vegas, even the NRA called on the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms to immediately review whether bump stocks comply with federal law. The NRA went on to say they believe that the device which is designed to allow semi-automatic rifles to function like fully-automatic rifles should be subject to additional regulations.

What does Cordasco say about assault weapons and equipment like bump stocks? Heather has said “it’s really a cosmetic change to a gun. It’s basically a term.” That “cosmetic change” is responsible for the rapid fire that killed and wounded hundreds of people in Las Vegas. 

2.Heather Cordasco believes all gun legislation is against the Second Amendment.

Cordasco has said that she doesn’t believe there is any piece of legislation, not even one, that would protect Virginians from gun violence without infringing on their second amendment rights.

Tragically, Virginia sees roughly 900 gun deaths annually and our state ranks 9th in the nation, per capita, for sourcing illegal firearms. Additionally, Virginia does not regulate unsafe handguns (“junk guns” or “Saturday night specials”). Despite all of these facts and statistics, Cordasco doesn’t think there’s even a single law the General Assembly could pass that would address these problems.

3. Heather Cordasco believes that the “gun show loophole” doesn’t exist. 

The facts, however, disagree. Virginia doesn’t require a background check prior to the transfer of a firearm between unlicensed individuals, nor does it regulate the transfer or possession of 50 caliber rifles or large-capacity ammunition magazines. In reality, there are countless gun transactions falling through the cracks that Heather is ignoring.

Heather’s views are blind to reality. When you vote to send someone to Richmond on November 7, please keep this in mind.
