Due to chronic underfunding of Virginia’s colleges and universities, the cost of a college education for students in our communities is now at a record high, according to a recent report by the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV).
The General Assembly is underfunding Virginia institutions of higher education by $660 million. Students must make up the difference by paying more for their education.
This fall, that translates to a $2,700 tuition increase, on average.
As this infographic shows, Virginia lawmakers need to add $660 million in additional state funding to bring tuition costs back down to affordable levels, thus making college attainable for Virginia students. (View our related infographic on student debt.)
