Birth Control. STD Testing. Wellness Exams. Cervical Cancer Screenings.
That’s what the Trump Administration and some Virginia congressman are attacking this time.
Let’s start here. Title X is great.
Title X helps provide essential preventative healthcare
Title X is the only federal program that provides funding for reproductive healthcare and family planning—services such as birth control, cancer screenings, and other preventative healthcare. Four million people rely on this investment into our local communities through Title X funding every year and those four million people may not be able to access basic healthcare without it.
Many of these women who are low-income and/or women of color. It is their right to preventative healthcare that is being threatened by a bunch of white men. It’s shocking, isn’t it, that all these men are out of touch with the needs of women of color? ? #ElectMoreWomen
Trump’s administration is working to keep people from accessing birth control and reproductive health care.
A recently proposed rule from Health and Human Services would
- Prevent women from getting healthcare their already trusted providers
- Stops providers from referring patients for safe, legal abortion (yes you read that correctly, doctors would not be able to refer for their patients for a legal medical procedure)
- Ignores the guarantee that patients receive accurate and complete information about their healthcare.

Title X is the Only Source of Healthcare for 42,000 Virginia Women
In Virginia, 70,000 women rely on Title X services every year. Sixty percent (42,000) of women who receive healthcare from a Title X-funded provider consider it to be their primary source of healthcare. More than 60% of Title X patients are at or below the federal poverty line, and Title X patients are disproportionately women of color.
Is it worth mentioning that for every dollar the federal government spends on family planning, $7 is saved? It seems worth mentioning to a few members of the GOP (Trump never has been any good at math).
You Can Protect Family Planning, and Title X
HHS is accepting public comments on the proposed Title X rule until July 31.
