Hardworking Families Disappointed as Glenn Youngkin and Other Republicans Win Election

Richmond, Virginia—Today, hardworking families across the Commonwealth are disappointed with the news Terry McAuliffe, Hala Ayala, and Mark Herring lost their races for Governor, Lieutenant Governor, and Attorney General.

“We’re disappointed that Terry McAuliffe, Hala Ayala, and Mark Herring lost, and that progressives failed to retain control of the House of Delegates. But for the past year, Glenn Youngkin and the Republican party have been running on racist dog whistles and flooding voters with disinformation and lies to motivate their base while some Democrats have invoked Trump to motivate theirs,” LaTwyla Mathias, Executive Director at Progress Virginia said. “We must do more than invoke Trump’s name and say what we are against. Instead, progressives must articulate a vision for what we want: a community where everyone can thrive, everyone has a good paying job, can see a doctor when they get sick, and take time off work when they welcome a child or fall ill. We will continue to work in 2022 to spell out a bold vision for the future where all of us, regardless of our skin color, income level, immigration status, and zip code, can thrive in our communities.”
