Medicare turns 45 today. Unfortunately, the anniversary has been marked by politicians who want to gut the program to pay for more tax breaks for millionaires and big corporations. 

Virginians depend on Medicare to ensure they have access to good health care late in life. But the Republican plan to slash Medicare would more than double seniors’ out of pocket costs by turning it into a voucher system.

Virginians want their leaders to preserve Medicare for future generations, not dismantle it to give handouts to millionaires and oil companies. We’re wishing Medicare a happy birthday and many more to come.
