Progress Virginia Responds To Trump’s Latest Attacks on Military Ahead of Virginia Visit

Newport News, Virginia—In advance of Donald Trump’s campaign rally tonight, Progress Virginia released two new web ads featuring veterans calling out his latest disrespectful comments about the military. “The continued attacks on our military personnel are reprehensible but not surprising,” said Anna Scholl, executive director of Progress Virginia. “He uses the military like he uses everything else—as props to be exploited to further his own agenda. Our troops deserve better than Trump.”

The campaign rally will be held at 9 p.m. at the Newport News/Williamsburg International Airport. It should be interesting given recent reports that Trump repeatedly disparaged members of the military and described America’s war dead as “losers” and “suckers.”

Washington Post journalist Bob Woodward says in a new book that Trump used even coarser language than ‘losers’ and ‘suckers’ in private. “My f—— generals are a bunch of p—ies,” Trump reportedly told White House trade adviser Peter Navarro at one point, according to Woodward. In an area with a strong military history and presence, Trump’s latest MAGA rally may indicate just how strained the relationship between the military and its Commander-in-Chief has become. A July poll by the Military Times reported that almost half (49.9%) of the more than 1,000 troops surveyed held a negative view of him.
